‘Someday’ CSY 37 Caribbean Sailing Yachts Corporation (CSY) was initially just a charter company, operating primarily in the Caribbean. CSY, needed stronger boats which would more easily and economically withstand the rigors of nearly 365 day a year operation, under bare-boat charter, with less than experienced captain and crew. So, CSY went into the boat manufacturing business, CSY boats were built to unusually high standards of strength, durability and quality, due to the demands of their use in the charter business. The CSY Guide describes how the boats met the Lloyds of London stringent design and boat building requirements. CSY did not use wood lamination in its construction, a technique that is the curse of many boats of this vintage. The CSY hull is up to 1.5" of solid fibreglass reinforced plastic resin with 14 dual layers (one sheet of fibreglass mat and one sheet of fibreglass weave = one layer). The avoidance of wood cores extends to the deck, which is also solid fibreglass. The only wood used in the construction of these boats, are heavy laminated structural stringers, bulkheads and interior furniture. She is undoubtedly a head turner where ever she goes. This heavily built, cutter rigged sailing yacht enjoyed a short stint as a charter boat, before being bought and then spending a few years cruising along the East coast of the United States, including the Bahamas and the St Laurence Seaway in Canada. She then changed hands in 2000 when Andrew, the previous owner bought her. He lived aboard her for 5yrs whilst he prepared her for the trans-Atlantic crossing to be with his girlfriend in Scotland. He renewed the running/standing rigging, replaced all the sails. All lines leading back to the cockpit ready for his single handed crossing. Once over here, he started a family and no longer had the time or money for a boat of this calibre, so with regret he put her up for sale. Her present owners Mike and Sue bought her from Andrew in June 2007, she was then given a refit. All the 110v wiring removed and replaced with 240v lighting and sockets through a control unit with circuit breakers. All 12v wiring and lights replaced and a new switch panel fitted.
