For sale - Laser Dart 16 beach catamaran in good working condition with galvanised braked road trailer (includes lockable aluminium storage box for all rigging and sails etc and room for a Laser sailing dinghy or camping gear on the flat bed) and launching trolleyDart 16 CatamaranI bought this catamaran second hand in 2014 to teach my daughter to sail. Since I have owned it, it has had new hatch covers (screw on lids that access the insides of the hulls), new jib sheets (ropes), new rudder bungees and a new wind indicator. It is a very easy boat to sail, I am a large guy and the lack of a boom (fully battened main sail) is great as you don't get hit on the head as you go about! (I've always had this problem with my laser dinghy). The jib sail has a furling system so if the wind gets up whilst you are out you can just furl the jib in a bit to de-power the rig. The mainsail also has a slab reefing point which is very easy to use.It has been a great boat, ideal for teaching the kids on, and is very roomy, stable and fast in light to moderate winds. The roto moulded 'Tecrothene' hulls are very durable and can with stand beach landings really well (unlike fibreglass hulls). The boat has been sat on the trailer in our garden since October last year and the hulls haven't taken in any water.I also have a trapeze harness that the crew wears to hike out on the trapeze (somewhere in the attic) that is included in the sale. The reason it is now up for sale is that we have a ski boat and the catamaran isn't getting used now so time to pass it on for someone else to enjoy.
"The Dart 16 is a modern beach catamaran that is fast, affordable, and seaworthy. Like most Dart catamarans except for the Dart 20 EXP it lacks the main , as well as , , and complicated trimming mechanisms. The lower part of the hulls have skegs typical for a beach catamaran. The most noticeable difference to the popular  and  catamarans is that the hulls are made out of Tecrothene, a thermo plastic. This material is very impact- and scratch-resistant, but somewhat heavier and harder to repair than . The kick-up rudders are similar to the .The  consists of a rotating aero-dynamically shaped aluminum mast held by a forestay and two shroud wires. There is a  for the crew. The mainsail does not have a boom is fully battened and is controlled by a main sheet with a 6:1 mechanical advantage. The main sheet system has ball-bearing block system with a ratchet and jamming cleat. The option of a  sail is available."For further info refer to this link to Laser website - http://shopeu.laserperformance.com/2016-dart-16/Galvanised braked road trailerThe boat comes with a galvanised frame trailer with timber bunks to carry the catamaran hulls. The bottom half of the trailer has an aluminium full length deck that can be used to either transport another dinghy (we have used it to transport our Laser dinghy underneath the catamaran) or you could use it for camping equipment etc.
At the front of the trailer is a large lockable (aluminium box with a fibreglass lid) waterproof storage box that is large enough to carry all the gear for the catamaran and a second boat (such as a Laser dinghy). The jockey wheel and hand brake / road brakes are all in good working condition. The trailer lighting board and cable is one year old and has LED lights, mounted on a custom frame that attaches onto the rudder pins on the back of the boat. The front mast cradle is adjustable in height so that you can ensure the mast does not hit the roof of the towing vehicle even if you are using a high top van.The trailer is also really useful if you go camping as there is enough room to put all your gear on the flat bed below and in between the hulls or you can transport another dinghy. Please contact me (Richard) on 01253 836888 or 07973 621288 for further information or a viewing. The boat is located at my house near Blackpool / Preston. If you want further pictures email me with your request at richard@ansell.org.Payment will be either cash or confirmed bank transfer on collection.
