Description
For sale is my Flying Fish Marlin 2 Hovercraft fitted with the Briggs and Stratton Vanguard 35hp twin. I've owned this craft for a little over 2 years having bought as a second hand craft direct from the manufacturers in Kent. It has been fantastic on the Taw and Torridge estuary where I live and is a very capable machine for 2 adults, or 1 adult and 2 kids. Sadly having to sell due to moving house and the arrival of a very small person (my wife has banned me from strapping a cot to the hovercraft). Includes an additional double rear seat (shown in some photos) if you want to carry two kids. For two adults (1 passenger) the centre seat is best. Also includes the braked road trailer and a cover. The craft has just been serviced with the following: · Oil, plugs, filters· New upgraded ignition coils from B&S· New throttle cable· New battery· Drive belt replaced 4 hours ago· New bilge pumpCondition: The craft is I believe 6 years old. It has some spider cracks in the gelcoat on the RH outboard side (pictured). The skirt is faded in areas but has plenty of life in it and the seat has a small tear which has been taped up (see pic) The gelcoat on the LH of the seat unit has some blistering. Otherwise it is generally good used condition and well maintained. The Marlin uses the Vanguard V-twin 4 stroke, a fairly bulletproof commercial type engine. I have found it very reliable, always starting on the button and significantly better than a 2 stroke for a cruising hovercraft. It is very efficient – a 20lt tank lasts around 4 hours – distance covered depends on terrain and weight. It will carry in excess of 200kg. (2 adults, 1 adult & 2 children). Some other common questions: What is it like to pilot – fun, it will turn rapidly however takes a lot longer to travel in the new direction it is pointing. This results in a lot of hovering sideways in order to correct your direction of travel. The ride it very smooth, as you would expect. You tend to lean your body into a turn (like a motorbike) to increase the turn speed. Where can it be used – inland waterways, rivers, estuaries, harbours provided no local restrictions and calm seas (preferably in sight of a beach). Brilliant in tidal areas with drying sand and mud banks. I have been about 15km up the Torridge river in the past with no problems (including going up rapids!). A great machine to getting to the pub (if the pub is next to a beach). Does is float – with the engine switched of the craft will float happily. When you are ready to go fire her up and gently increase the revs. What surfaces does it work on – it is best on water, sand, mud or shorter grass. Tarmac is fine but not recommended for longer periods as it will wear the skirt. Shingle is ok but slow as you lose skirt pressure. Very long grass is not so good. I have had some great days in North Devon on a mixture of sand, mud and beach. Speed – Cruise at 25-30 mph, however the top speed I have seen on water is 37mph (GPS speed). The craft is located in North Devon nr Barnstaple. If you wish to view I have a grass area behind the house which I can demonstrate the craft on, however I’ll be doing the driving. Payment in cash or bank transfer. Please contact me (Bob) on 07717 317498 if you wish to discuss further.
