Inventory # 9898 Location: Scappoose, OR General Description: This 1992 40’ Bert Haupt Motorsailer was damaged when a severe windstorm blowing in a NW direction swept through the Pacific Northwest on day of incident. Proper mooring lines were in place including spring lines at the time the storm began. The boat’s mooring line came loose when the stern cleat it was fastened to tore off the vessel’s stern. The boat then broke loose from the remaining lines and was set adrift, hitting a free standing pier before slamming into a boathouse and dock. The vessel then became pinned against a floating log structure and the main dock. Protruding bolts from the log structure damaged vessel’s starboard hull side resulting in several gouges and scratches. The starboard tow rail had approximately 7’x3” of damage from log bolts. The bow was damaged by repeatedly striking the main dock. Outside damage to deck rail starboard and bow area. Broken wood and damaged planks. Some planks need replacement. Minor leaks in deck. Strong solid boat, just needs maintenance. Rear hatch hinges not connected. Starboard topsides missing paint in several areas. Some areas up to ¼” deep marred spots and one about 8” in diameter ding. Port side also has some gouges and scratches with damaged gunnel area. Not all equipment could be tested as no power to vessel at time of inspection.
