Description: Beautiful wooden sailboat. Original wood spars, mahogany seats, main, jib, cover. Including an outboard bracket, Mercury 3.3 two stroke motor and a King brand trailer This is the original wooden Wayfarer sailboat designed in 1957 manufactured by Small Craft Limited and also by amateur builders working from authorized kits, using the measured templates and jigs supplied, with a hull and deck made from plywood. The hull is of a 'three plank' construction that is with two chines, this provides stability. Both forward and aft buoyancy compartments are fitted with large watertight hatches and this provides ample stowage space for cruising. The large floor space with flat floorboards and good clearance under thwart makes the Mark I a comfortable boat for two people to sleep in when a boom-tent is erected for shelter. The mast is held in a tabernacle, which when rigged with a tackle on the forestay allows the mast to be lowered to pass under bridges. Frank Dye's famous “W48 Wanderer” a 1963 wooden Wayfarer Mark 1, of the same type and year of the one being offered here, is a testament to its robust construction. This open-sailing dinghy sailed to Iceland in 1963 and Norway in 1964.The boat is now in the collection of the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth. Other boats of this model are still racing after 50 years. In 2014, “Charm” was raced at the Port Townsend Classic Mariners Regatta, where she came in first in her class by a significant margin! Her Portsmouth numbers would indicate that she is in the same category as other fast boats like the Laser. Hull Type Wood Make Wayfarer Model Mark 1 “Woodie” Year 1963 Hull Identification Number (HIN) = 941 Boat name “Charm” LOA = 15 feet 10 inches or 4.827 meters GARELICK Auxiliary Outboard Bracket Mercury outboard 3.3 two stroke engine King brand trailer, all Steel Construction.Boat, Trailer and outboard work performed: 1. New Sails with furling jib and main, main has two reefing points (Baxter Sails, Norfolk, VA), will include original sails. 2. New wire rigging, turnbuckles and new lines and Harken blocks. 3. Added an outboard motor adjustable mount 4. The hull was completely sanded, primed, and painted. (2014) 5. Stripped and re-varnished bow deck and interior seats and bright work trim. (2014) 6. Repainted hull interior (2015) 7. Applied non-skid to floorboards. (2015) 8. Refurbished trailer (2013), sandblasted, primed and painted steel members, also added roller to support chines. This allows it to roll off and on very easily. 9. Installed battery operated bilge pump with hose overboard. This is only ever needed when the spray gets heavy. Also used when rinsing boat. 10. Outboard motor was fully serviced and in 2014.
