Ballast 265Lbs These are designed by Ted Spears and the brief was for a safe trailer sailer that the owner could use to explore lakes, rivers and estuaries. The appearance and ease of handling were of equal importance. A traditional concept with regard to the rig and hull shape was the natural solution. The hull shape is evocative of 18th century naval cutters and gigs and has an easily driven shape with fine entry having the transom tucked up. Reserve buoyancy in the hull will make for a very stiff vessel able the stand up to her canvas. Plenty of sheer gives a jaunty appearance and helps to keep the crew dry. The rig offers plenty of sail area for light conditions or a good thrash with a heavy crew. The ease of handling and reefing a gaff sail together with the traditional appearance works well with the hull shape. The mast is approximately the same length as the hull to facilitate trailing the craft with safety. The bowsprit “unplugs” and everything stows onboard. The twin cockpits are laid out to enable three large adults to enjoy the cruise or with everything to hand for a single-hander. The use of cedar epoxy lends itself to economical series production with the possibility of some customisation. PDF “Rioja” is a hand built "robust" sailing boat that gets some wonderful comments when out on the water. She is a very safe and forgiving boat to sail or motor. I launch her singlehanded (and sail her), and thanks to an amazing amount of ballast, she is sails just like a little ship! When new (year 2000), she cost over £20,000 (excluding engine and trailer). She is now for sale at a fraction of the original cost of a new boat. The hull is deep red (hence Rioja), and all other paintwork and varnish has been updated. She also has a new mast and very good set of sails. So she is good to go…. I have included two additional images for reference one with the new mast (and blue hull, prior to changing the hull back to the original colour of deep red). Hence the name Rioja (like the wine). The other image (grey hull boat), this is not the boat for sale. But as my boat is in dry storage, I am unable to show an image of the boat rigged with the mast up. She is on an unbaked SBS trailer (included in the sale). An engine can be purchased separately (new 5 HP, or 2.3 HP engine). I am selling her as I have other boats, and don't get a chance to use her. She is a fantastic boat, very safe, forgiving and fun. She can be used as a motor boat, or as intended, as a small sailing yacht. Local pick up only. Chester, North West. Any questions: 07919884807
