This is a rare opportunity to buy an 18 foot sports cruiser with a Volvo Penta D3 130hp common rail turbodiesel engine and SX sterndrive seldom found in a boat of this size. This Quayline 18 was built in 2005 with their highest spec 130hp diesel engine option and sold at the Southampton Boat Show in the same year. When we bought it from the original owner through a Southampton broker in 2009 the engine had done less than 20 hours! Since then we have had years of trouble-free trips around the Essex coast and estuaries, many of them overnight, and the engine has still only done about 160 hours. We wanted a small two-berth boat that would be fast enough to get to different places quickly or run for cover if the weather turned, yet be able to potter about all day on very little fuel, and be comfortable enough for overnight and weekend trips. This boat offers a remarkable combination of speed, reliability, economy, accommodation and facilities in such a small package. It will get on to the plane in seconds and Quayline’s brochure states “it is possible to water ski with engines over 40hp”; been insured to do it but haven’t tried!
The boat has been based at the Boat Park and Ride trailered launch and recovery facility at Brightlingsea since 2009, where it is currently lying, and has been in commission all year round. As it has been kept ashore on its trailer and not on a mooring there is no build-up of marine life on the hull or engine. It is not currently SSR registered as it has only been used on local tidal waters. Sadly, we are now unable to use the boat enough to justify keeping it. If you are seriously interested it can be viewed ashore and launched at any state of the tide. Please see the note below about the condition of the trailer.

Max Load 1000kg)Bow winchWheel clampLight board
Please note that, although the park and ride system is kind on boats, it is less kind to the trailer. Although it works fine for launching, and I think the wheel bearings are ok, I removed (and kept) the brake linings some years ago, and the cables etc are now corroded. If the boat is to be kept at the current location (which I believe would be possible by arrangement with BP&R) this would not be a problem, but if it is to be towed some distance it would be necessary for the buyer to carry out their own check on the bearings and tow with a vehicle having an unbraked capacity of something over 1000kg, or repair the brakes if to be towed with a smaller vehicle. If necessary I will cover the cost of keeping the boat at its current location for up to 4 weeks after purchase to allow the new owner time to sort out the brakes. I have priced the boat taking this issue into account. This very rare boat can be viewed by arrangement at Brightlingsea, Essex.
