Project Boat.  1976 33ft Irwin MkII sailboat with shoal draft keel.  I bought this boat in 1989 in Detroit and sailed it to Florida.  I believe I was the boat’s third owner.   I did a 9 month cruise on it in the Bahamas, and a 2 ½ year cruise to South America and back.  I also sailed around the Keys several times and out to the Dry Tortugas with it.  I loved the boat and thought it performed well.  A family emergency in 2003 caused me to put the boat in a storage yard in SW Florida and move back up north.  In 2004 Hurricane Wilma rolled the boat onto her side and broke the mast, roller furling and one stanchion.  There are some hairline cracks on one side of the boat, maybe just gelcoat crazing or maybe as a result of Wilma.  A friend with a sailing related business sold me a new mast of the same length with some rigging included.  I scrapped the old mast and roller furling and mounted the new mast horizontally on wooden horses on deck.  (See photos) That was in 2005 and that was the last time I saw the boat. A friend of mine took these 5 pictures of my boat for me in 2009.   I’ve been told it still looks the same.  I  always thought that someday I would return to Florida to live but that is no longer part of  my plans and so there is no point in  my continuing to store a boat that I will never use.   The boat has a displacement of 10,950 lbs. and a draft of 4 ft. the beam is 11 ft. 2 in. It is powered by an atomic IV gasoline engine.  The potable water tank holds 65 gals, the fuel tank 25 gals.  The holding tank is 20 gals.  This boat will need some work.  It  has been neglected in a storage yard for 13 yrs now, I’m sure the fuel tank  and carburator will need to be cleaned out.  It will need new spreaders and probably some additional standing rigging.  It will also need new  running rigging, and a new bottom hatch board.  It has some crazing of the gelcoat in places.  There is a mainsail, Genoa and working jib aboard, all were in good condition the last time I  saw  them.  The working jib was fairly new.  There are four anchors aboard, a fisherman, a delta, a bruce and a Danforth.  There are two anchor rodes, each consisting of approx. 120ft of rope and 35 ft of chain.  There are two anchor rode lockers and two bow rollers for anchors.  There is also a full cockpit bimini inside, which I re-stitched in about 2001.  There is also scuba equipment, a folding bicycle, and various other odds and ends inside.  No genset.  The boat never had blisters and I applied the Interlux barrier coats to prevent blisters in the late 90s.  Storage of the boat is $488.72 quarterly, or about $163 per month.  Storage is currently paid up through 10/13/16.  The boat also has a retractable centerboard which I never used.  With board down, draft would be 8 ft.  However the board is relatively light at 80 lbs and the least bit of marine growth prevents the board from dropping.  The mechanism for raising and lowering is also very complicated and prone to failure.  I was working on a simpler system when I had to suddenly leave Florida.  My advice would be forget about the centerboard, the boat performs very well without it.  In the many thousands of miles I sailed, I had no problems with the board always being up.  Of course you could restore the original system, or create a new system for raising and lowering.  This boat is for sale as is, where is.  If you have  ever cruised the Bahamas or the Keys, or plan to, you know how advantageous it is to have a boat with a 4 ft draft.  There are so many places you can go, so many short cuts you can take, and so many great anchorages you can enter with a 4 ft draft that can’t be reached with a 5 or 6 ft draft.   Buyer will need to arrange for shipment or continue storage.  Boat work is permitted in the boat yard.  Skilled and unskilled labor can be hired to help.  Payment must be made in full with PayPal within 3 days after auction closes.  I will send title and bill of sale within 5 days of receiving payment.
