Here I am selling my Tornado Catamaran complete with road trailer. Back in the 1980s I used to race an old Marauder dinghy with a very good friend. One night over too many beers we decided we needed something quicker and when this Tornado catamaran came up for sale locally it seemed like the solution, so I bought and collected it. The previous owner had owned it for a few years but had never used it. This was in November 1988 so on getting it home it was sheeted over and left until the spring (winter is not good dinghy sailing weather in the North East of Scotland!). The following year I took a new job which took me away from home for most of the summer, and this temporary job became permanent so the catamaran just sat there until we had time to do something with it. Sadly about 6 years ago my sailing partner died, and the cat was still untouched. I have now come to the conclusion that I am too old and definitely too fat for catamaran sailing, so this year a bought a GP14 which suits me fine these days.Today I uncovered the catamaran for the first time in 28 years and unpacked it to see what was there (although a bit late to complain if anything was not as described!) Time has been relatively kind to it, although 28 years storage has not improved it. The hulls and spars all seem in excellent condition, although there is evidence of a few minor, ancient repairs. The Alluminium spars all seem to be excellent, the nylon deck seems good and there appears to be some spare material. All the rigging appears to be there including the sail battons, but I have never rigged it so am not sure.Bits that need work - the trailer needs 2 new wheels and tyres (one wheel has rotted away) and a new tow hitch as it is a cheap pressed tin one and has also rotted away. These parts will cost about 40 to 50 pounds to buy new, but as a result it cannot be towed. The catamaran itself will need two new rudder blades as these were wood and have rotted, but enough survive to use as patterns. The daggerboards are mahogany and look perfect. There is no jib (the previous owner lied!) and the mainsail is there but holed and very old and tatty but bears the sail number K-170. Apart from that, the wooden bo that sits between the hulls on the trailer to store all the bits is also very rotten but again will make a pattern. That is about all I can say about it, you are very welcome to view before bidding, all my decriptions are to the best of my limited knowledge of these.. It is located about 30 miles south of Aberdeen and you will need a car transporter trailer to collect it. If you are stuck I can probably deliver it at a cost of one pound per mile, but the boat and delivery will have to be paid for before I set out. Feel free to ask questions, I will answer if I can. I really need the space so the auction has no reserve, and no buy it now. I will loose a fortune on it as I paid far too much for it and the condition has not improved any! Thank you for looking.
