Ferro Itchen Ferry type gaff cutter 24ft
Estimated price for orientation: 100 $
Category: Sailing Boats
Class:
Description Year: 1982 Type: Itchen Ferry Gaff Cutter Hull Material: Ferro-Cement Rigging: Galvanised Length (feet): 24.5 ft Keel: Long integral keel Beam (feet): 9 ft Draft: 3'6"
Built 1982 - 84, much loved, lived aboard, sailed, but now ten years on mooring / in yard. Needs new mast, rigging, foredeck, hull paint and rudder bearing, plus a lot of maintenance. Sails tired but serviceable. Professional boatyard built laid columbian pine open cockpit which runs from transom to mast and foredeck and out to the side decks, approximately 19ft long by 8ft wide at the point of maximum beam. Mahogany coaming. Hull has a prop shaft liner with a plug in it, but I have always used a 6HP Mariner 4 stroke outboard on a bracket. (This engine is not for sale with the boat but possible separately if you get in touch.) I intentionally kept the boat very simple and she has no electrics at all, although there is a masthead tricolour with wiring to connect to a portable battery. There is a single berth in the forepeak with a leecloth. There are lots of 'bits' in the garage that I will load up. All the usual bolts and spares, fisherman's anchor etc. As you can see from the pictures the boat has legs for drying out / being in the yard. This boat has been out of the water in a boatyard in Greenwich, London for 2 years but it is going back in the water within the month. For me I would guess a month's full time work to get her sailing again. There's always doubt about Ferro hulls but this boat was built from a kit from Ferro Cement Marine Services to a design by John French, professionally plastered by a very experienced team and properly water cured for a month. The hull is approx 1/2 inch thick, 5 layers twilweld galvanised mesh and tensile 4mm stringers @ 1 1/2 inch centres. No trailer. The boat weighs approximately 4 tons with all the internal ballast. If not used for sailing she might make a good launch.Buyer collects by land or water. I don't want anyone to underestimate the amount of work involved in moving and renovating this boat so get in touch before bidding if you wish. I am selling her because with 3 kids and a dinghy now she gets no use at all. But for someone prepared to put the time in still has a lot to give.
