 A GENUINE SALE DUE TO INFIRMITY. VIEWING AVAILABLE FROM SEPTEMBER 23RD TO OCTOBER 9TH. IN STALHAM, NORFOLK. This is a unique opportunity to buy a "new" cruiser at a bargain price. It has cost nearly £8,000 so far, and if you could buy this new now would cost double that. I have owned various boats over 40 years and this is the best design yet. It is a Shetland 2+2 shell built by Check Marine of Long Melford, Suffolk at an unknown date; the brand new and unused boat shell was then stored in a barn for years and was purchased by me last year. It is currently fitted out as a day/picnic/weekend boat, and it was launched on the Norfolk Broads on March 31st this year. It has a full new Boat Safety Certificate (4 years) and a Broads Licence to 31/3/17 is included. It is moored on an idyllic marina on the Northern Broads (mooring may be available at additional cost, or move to your own mooring - there is NO TRAILER). It has a self-draining high level deck (so views over the Broads reed beds and not just low level!), 4 berths (including a massive double-bed area unique to this design) and a large aft compartment reached by a ladder (which is where an inboard engine would fit - I was going to locate a 240v generator and a couple of folding bikes in there - or could even be used as an extra berth). So far I have fitted it out as follows: • Shetland swim/outboard platform (supplied new by Shetland Boats) • Evinrude 30hp 2 stroke outboard (recently serviced, BUT there is a problem selecting forward gear which at best is a control adjustment, at worst a replacement forward engagement cog) • Bespoke seating area on decking • New 12v Leisure Battery, Solar Panel & Distributor (working but electrics need completing - a simple job)
• New Starter Battery • Galley including stove • New chemical toilet . Newly upholstered seating • New full heavy duty Winter waterproof cover
* Polycarb "mooring" cover
•Etc etc...
Use as it is or fit out further as a luxury cruiser.
PLEASE NOTE CAREFULLY - What we have is a unique boat - the  Shetland 2+2 design dates back to the seventies; but in the eighties and nineties moulds were sold on to other boat manufacturers. My understanding is that Check Marine of Long Melford in Suffolk (now no longer in business) bought a number of different moulds and manufactured under their own name (if you search for them you will find a number of Check Marine 22s and no doubt the odd one for sale - but when comparing prices remember that those boats have been in the water for 20 plus years and there may be problems with osmosis etc. but THIS boat has been in the water for less than six months!). My boat was apparently bought as a shell (with doors, windows and rails only) and stored in a barn for ?? years, only emerging to be sold last year on land as a project. I have owned boats for over 40 years and this was to be my retirement present; the idea being that I fit it out and my wife and I would spend a couple of years touring the Norfolk Broads, then move it to the Upper Thames for a season and then ship it to France and sail down to the shores of the Med through the canals... However, not long after launching the boat my wife's health deteriorated and she found clambering on and off a boat too much. We launched the boat at Sutton Staithe on the 31st. March 2016 (having spent the previous 9 months fitting it out basically to use as a dayboat initially) and moored her at Stalham - we then had a few idyllic trips out (see pictures) but then her health deterioration put a stop to that. The outboard was running sweetly but developed a fault (see above) and to be honest the boat has laid at her mooring ever since gathering the usual boat patina of green algae and duck muck , but a simple wash will show her true colours!
I do have the option of paying to have her completed professionally, but knowing I wont be using her means that I dont have the drive to do this. She is therefore for sale at an absolute bargain price.I might be tempted to take something in part-exchange/swap (yours + cash, not the other way round), OR a straight swap but for something of proven similar value. e.g. Motorhome (preferred), Caravan, 4x4 Pickup, a Skoda for my wife or what have you? Don't be afraid to try me! Viewing strictly by appointment as the mooring owners have a very strict policy on this.
Sorry, but NO overseas buyers. Please feel free to contact me on 07794 579184 for further information without obligation or to arrange viewing. Thanks.
