Cox Master Mariner motor sailor.Up for sale is my Cox Master Mariner- Up for sale due to a large house renovation project and the fact that my local marina has silted up now so badly that I struggle now to get out for more than an hour at high tide. She is a 1982 boat, and as such is a Mk3 version with a better keel system - triple keel with only a 3ft draft and will sit nicely on the sand or mud should you wish to keep her on moorings that dry out. As you can see she was well specd up on initial purchase and has davits so you can carry your tender behind out of the water.Hull: Good condition and original gel-coat. Was out of the water earlier this year and freshly antifouled. The cabin doors are currently being re-made for me by a carpenter as they are a little rough. These will be fitted prior to any sale.Engine: She has a 3 cylinder Yanmar and at 30hp and powers the boat very well and is very economical. She will do about 11-13 knts under engine alone. Oil and filters were changed earlier in the season along with impellor. She had two new engine mounts fitted prior to my purchasing which cost £200, also had a new shaft bearing £100, new gearbox seals, new teleflex steering £150, new anodes, new rudder bearings were also fitted (a labour intensive and expensive job!) One of the great things about the Cox Master mariner is it can either be steered from outside on the tiller or if the weather closes in you can seer by wheel from the wheelhouse, making it great for our unpredictable UK weather.Sails and rigging: Condition is pretty good and I have sailed her without issue.Electrics: I have done quite a bit of work on the electrics since owning her, as they were a bit of a mess. Most of the systems have been re-wired along with a Garmin 550S GPS fitted, and a new VHF and automatic bile pump. Also a new distribution panel/ switch panel. There is twin batteries through an isolator. Layout: 4 berth - This is set out amazingly well for a 22ft boat. In the fwd cabin you have two staggered bunks, along with lots of storage. Coming aft you have the heads on your stbd side with a new toilet. Opposite the heads on the port side you have a good sized wardrobe for hanging up your gear. Aft again through the door you have the wheelhouse, this has great visibility. It has a large chart / dining table that  also converts into a double bed. In the wheelhouse there is a 2 ring cooker and plenty of cupboards for storage. And the expected under seat storage.Overall a great boat, especially for the UK weather. Reliable engine with good economy, and a great layout for a small family or couple wishing to explore the UK coastline. The boat is usable as is but there is always room for the new owners to improve her, cabin furnishings could do with modernising and the woodwork could do with a sand and a varnish. Letting you put your mark on the boat.Viewing is of course welcome, however please message me so we can arrange a date and time as I travel a lot and am often out of the country as a marine engineer. Please use email address
The below is a review of the Cox Master Mariner taken from Yachting monthly.
Cox Master Mariner
This Vic Martin design from 1977 is quite a surprise package. Not only is she very roomy for her 22ft, she is also, considering her appearance, a very capable performer, particularly off the wind in a bit of a blow. The raised foredeck has two berths under it, while the dinette in the saloon converts to another double. There is a large galley and a good, sheltered steering position. She has an adequate sloop rig as standard, though there was an option for a less efficient ketch configuration. The long keel is flanked by bilge plates, allowing her to dry out upright. She is a safe, comfortable little estuary cruiser.LOA 6.85m (22ft 5in), LWL 5.65m (18ft 6in), beam 2.65m (8ft 8in), draught 0.92m (3ft),
displacement 3,500kg (7,718lb). Price guide: £6,000 to £10,000.
