This classic sloop maintains a noteworthy following among sailors worldwide for her classic lines and incredibly strong construction. A durable ocean going vessel, she is equipped to travel in a range of conditions, on inland lakes or on the high seas. The Valkyrie III is a 1972 classic, but has undergone major renovations to modernize her accommodations for today's discriminating sailors. Fine attention to minute detail was taken during her refit and is visible in every corner down below her decks. The professionally designed interior cabin features major upgrades such as the Force 10 Propane Cabin Heater, a gimballed Magic Chef Range Oven, microwave oven and custom-built hardwood cabinets with expanded storage, built-in electronics and new cabinet hardware. Her main salon was designed with classical nautical colors and includes show-worthy highlights such as exquisitely textured bulkheads, real hard-wood construction and new countertops and faucets. Other features include a new Jabsco Marine Head, new 110v and 12v lighting and high velocity wall-mounted fans throughout, custom-made rugs with top quality binding and new matching upholstery on all cabin-cushions. A Dual Marine Stereo and weatherproof speakers provide rich, warm sound throughout her beautifully appointed cabin. Valkyrie III's upper decks showcase a variety of upgrades and refurbishments to her original 1972 design. The original jib sail has been replaced with a roller-furling jib for ease of operation. The Pearson's solid teak toe-rail was carefully sanded and varnished with Marine Grade Cetol, removing years of natural graying and weathering. Her traditional slat-board companion way doors have been replaced with easily opening swing doors with tinted Lexan dead-lights for sunlight filtration and improved view from inside the main salon. The original Brightwork and teak handrails have been supplanted due to normal deterioration with handcrafted marine grade replacements. Other upgraded features to the boat's spacious cockpit include a detachable pedestal style padded captain's chair, a pedestal mount dining table, a foul-weather dodger, folding Bimini top, Marine Speakers and locking winch handles.Valkyrie III was recently removed from her boat slip after many years on Lake Norman and placed in dry-dock in order to dry out the blistering which inevitably occurs to the outer layer of the hull. The bottom paint is peeling in many areas, showing the Pearson's original bottom coat color. Blistering below the waterline is widespread, but is considered normal for her age. The depth of the blisters is small as none of the blisters go penetrate into the fiberglass and there is no de-lamination in any of the thick hull's fiberglass layers. The hull above the waterline is in very good condition for her age and shows only minor wear. Valkyrie's decks are in great structural condition and there are no soft spots found on her topside. The gray non-skid surface, although worn, is in good shape and provides proper traction under foot. There are two stress cracks on her port and starboard decks which do not weaken or effect the structural integrity of the boat. These cracks are easily repairable with an inexpensive epoxy such as 3M EZ Sand Flexible Part Repair. There is a single rub on the port side gunwhale which penetrates into the fiberglass. The boat is extremely seaworthy and all repairs are non-structural in nature and are strictly cosmetic. Due to unforeseeable events, the owner has regretfully decided to halt the hull renovation process and sell this classic yacht. The Interlux Barrier Coat and Bottom Paint which was purchased for this purpose will be included with the sale of this vessel. Many other marine accessories are included in the sale, such as a carry-on air conditioner which fits in the small hatch, boat stands for dry storage, a new water heater (requires installation), yellow shore power cable, multiple life jackets, dock lines and fenders. The boat sits in dry-dock at the extreme north end of Lake Norman in Catawba, N.C. The boat may be returned to the water or may be allowed to remain in storage for a fee of $50 per month until cosmetic restoration is complete.
