A Beautiful 16ft classic clinker boat built in the 1950s. The boat was originally a fishing boat, then used as a rescue boat famously rescuing people from radio Caroline. Two years ago the boat was discovered and re built as its dimensions and shape were very desirable but also compiled with a very active 50 boat strong class on the East coast of England. The boat had new ribs steamed in, new gunnels fitted, new thwart, new hog, centre board slot moved back with new centre board casing built. Brand new mahogany rudder stock with oak high aspect blade, new centre board along with new seats and interior layout, a new pole among many other things were all added and all made from oak.New fittings, boyancy bags etc were also added. The rig was also all brand new and custom built. The mast is Douglas fir and is a hollow birds mouth construction. The boom is solid fir as is the gaff. The sails were also new and are bespoke measured and built by Hyde. All ropes and halyards are dyneema yet classic and in keeping. Black, brown, white and grey. The boat is sailed in a development class on Mersea Island known as the MFOB fleet (Mersea Fishermans Open Boat). The boats which compete in the class have to adhere to certain dimensions and be a certain construction and have a certain rig to be able to race. The fleet is very active, this particular boat is still being raced every weekend. These boats cross a brilliant divide between fairly racy but are also great classic day cruisers. This boat has beed designed to be sailed either solo, or be raced with as many as four crew. We usually race it three up when breezy and two up in the lighter stuff. The main is fully reef-able and the jib is fitted with a Melges 24 furler which works brilliantly and can also be semi furled, meaning less canvas and therefore making it a very versatile ship. The boat is also fitted with an asymmetric spinnaker flown off the end of the 3ft pole which also makes it surprisingly quick down wind. The simple deck layout and modern rigging make it easy to rig and sail while still very much being a classic.New bigger boat forces sale (same fleet and arguably a silly move. These mid sized boats are more agile, just as quick and are better for the creek based racing that happens the majority of time on our shores). This boat doesn't need for much as it is obviously is still being used and is currently on its swinging mooring (class rules). It will need a jet wash / scrub, antifouling, varnishing on the decks and exposed wood, and a few niggles sorting, in theory making it ready for next year. It can obviously be sailed here in the MFOB fleet but would also make a great creek explorer all the way through to a dinghy style class racer. The boat comes with a trailer that is used to haul it in and out dingy style a few times a season for a scrub. It also sits on it during the winter. I see no reason it can't be towed locally I might be slightly nervous it doing some distance. To summarise... A beautiful classic ready to be enjoyed. Can be sailed single handed or raced hard, be trailer sailed or put on a mooring. A great boat with the expensive bits bought and the hard work done. The boat is sat on its on its mooring and can be brought to shore for viewings and potentially test drives. Any more information please don't hesitate to get in touch.Best bet is to either text or call on 07887803011Email info@brizouk.comMany thanks. Oliver.
