Layla of Southampton is an excellent example of the popular Bavaria 42 Caribic launched in 1989. With her heavy displacement and strong build she is a very capable, roomy, long range cruising yacht. Not to be confused with later Bavarias that experienced some build quality issues in the mid-2000’s, this robust yacht is highly regarded for her excellent all-weather sailing abilities.Part 1 Registered & Category 2 Coded for 10 persons. Layla has been both a leisure yacht and sail training vessel for the last 5 years in Palma de Mallorca. She is in daily use as both a trainer for professional yacht captains and a leisure vessel. She sails beautifully and is a very seaworthy boat.In recent years she has been in use by our small RYA (Royal Yachting Association) training centre in Palma de Mallorca where her main role is as a training platform for professional standard sailors. She always attracts very positive comments for her excellent manners at sea from all who sail in her. She has also done a small amount of family sailing holidays and presents well.
She weighs in at 13.65 tons and has a Volvo-Penta 2003T turbo-charged marine diesel engine that provides very adequate power. She has a fully battened mainsail with 3 reefs and a Furlex furling genoa, both in good condition plus she carries a storm jib. She has a spray hood (not shown in photos), and spinnaker pole, although we don't have a spinnaker for her. Her standing rigging is in excellent order and her running rigging is replaced on condition. She has a strong windlass with remote, 60m of chain and a substantial anchor that provides excellent holding in all conditions.Internally she has 4 cabins - 3 doubles and a twin cabin with full-sized bunks. The spacious saloon features L-shaped seating around a large rise and fall table that also converts to a bed, so she will sleep 10. A well equipped chart table includes Raymarine C120 colour chart plotter with Western med navionics card, AIS, Radar, Raymarine DSC VHF, and EPIRB. There is one head (toilet) and a separate shower. The shower could easily have another head fitted - a straightforward job for a DIY-er, giving a 4-cabin, 2-head boat with a shower. She has a gimballed gas stove in the galley with gas alarm, excellent chest fridge, twin basin sink and good storage for pots/pans, cutlery & crockery. She has a hard-wearing synthetic teak deck that can be sanded and pressure washed (unlike regular teak) which is in good overall condition but could benefit from re-caulking in a few places. The synthetic teak does get very hot underfoot in the summer Med sunshine so you could choose to take it off and simply paint with non-slip - a weekend job. She is currently MCA Category 2 coded for 10 persons. She was surveyed in 2012, 2014 and 2015 for her coding - these are coding surveys (not buyers surveys) and I will make them available to serious buyers on proof of funds.
