Hello and welcome to the listing for my MFV Houseboat!Due to a change in circumstances I need to thin out the consumers of my time, so unfortunately she is now looking for a new keeper.MFV Smiling Morn was built in Sandhaven in 1933 by Forbes. She is classically constructed of Larch planks on huge Oak frames. The last wooden shipwright to view her had never seen frames so large on a vessel of this size, so she's certainly built to last, and has done just that. She came out of service in 1974 and underwent a complete renovation and rebuild as a gentleman's motor yacht. Since then she has been used for all kinds of purposes, from family holidays to tug work, and until recently as a very cosy houseboat. She is 50ft long with a 16ft beam, and boasts a rather splendid Gardner 5LB engine. These beasts are legendary, and was half the reason I bought her in the first place! She sports a beautiful wheelhouse interior, with many shiny brass things dotted about! The rear of the wheelhouse is now a generously sized kitchen, instead of the tiny corner galley she used to have below. This makes entertaining on deck much easier, her barbeques have always been popular!Below decks she has a sizeable living room, showing just how wide she actually is. she has a double sofabed with memory foam, plus another seating area that can accommodate a single berth. A Wildo wood burning stove provides more than ample heat for the boat, and as an added bonus is also ideal for cooking on. Further on is a room currently used for storage, but was previously a twin berth room. This can easily be converted back as all the original construction is still there. Finally there is the wetroom and toilet. At the moment a chemical loo is in situ, but a new Jabsco toilet will be included in the sale if desired. A 12v shower is also installed here. Beautiful as the old lady is, she does need attention in places. There are a few fastenings that would benefit from being replaced, and maybe some caulking in places. None of this requires immediate attention, and I'll more than likely get them done myself in any case. In my ownership she has had several deck beams and associated decking replaced, and consequently doesn't leak like a sieve when it rains like most old MFVs. She does take the full force of the weather in her current mooring, so I tend to repaint her frequently, which is actually a rather pleasant job as she does look so splendid when its done. Mechanically she is lacking an alternator, but starts on the button with batteries. As I only used her as accommodation this was never a problem, but easily rectified should you desire. There are 2 12v bilge pumps included, as well as a mains 2000gph pump. This has been used for saving some rather neglected boats in the marina rather than for her, but still handy nonetheless! She is currently on a secure residential mooring near Rochester. The option is there to keep this, but is negotiable with the marina. I will say that its a lovely friendly small marina, and she does have a nice berth. So if you like the idea of owning a real piece of nautical history, and having perhaps the prettiest houseboat in Kent, you know what to do!I have more pictures available on request, for some reason my phone just does not want to play when I try to load them on here. More than happy to text any pictures of her you'd like. Finally, a little reminder that you're bidding to buy her, not for an appointment. If you do wish to come and see her, feel free to message me, I'm available most of the time.Happy bidding!
