Recent Vetus 13hp engine which runs like a dream. Had a recent 8 hour motor-sailing sea passage and it didn't miss a beat. The boat itself is in very good condition for a 40+ year old vessel. The Vega is a very sturdy Swedish-built ocean-going yacht,  built in the early years of GRP construction, when boats were built like tanks, much thicker and therefore tougher than modern wafer-thin hulls.  Many Vegas have completed world circumnavigations and transatlantic crossings. Included is a Mercury dinghy which has never been in the water, bought new by the previous owner. There is a Garmin chartplotter bought new late last year and an older Furuno gps device as backup. An Icom radio provides communication facilities and there is a built in VHF / AM radio for entertainment. Sails are in very good condition. The foresail has roller furling and the main has lazy jacks installed for ease of raising and taking down the sail. Yacht owners are frequently hampered from going where they want to go by inconvenient things called bridges. Most masts need a crane to lower them and it's an expensive and complicated procedure. This boat has an A-Frame and tabernacle fitted to enable the owner to raise and lower the mast himself. It can be done on your own and is even easier with two people. This enables you to visit for example, the beautiful Norfolk Broads, for which there is still a few months licence left - a great place to hole up for the winter. Alternatively, a short hop across the Channel will give you access, with the mast down, to the wonderful French canal system, perhaps even all the way to the Mediterranean, where you can enjoy sunny climes even in the winter! A 140 W solar panel is connected up and working but needs to be installed on the bracket which is already there. It needs some extra steel bits to attach it onto the bracket, no problem for a practically minded skipper. Also the navigation lights need to be sorted out. I haven't bothered because I never sailed at night. Basically there are two front LED lights (supplied brand new) which just need to be fitted, and some lights on the mast need to be sorted out. I think one blown bulb and another light which comes on when it shouldn't. Because the mast can be easily lowered, it's no problem for an electrician or DIY person to sort this out. The inside electrics are all sound and the boat generally is very nicely and professionally wired, no rats' nests of tangled wires and cables here!There is a sea-toilet which flushes directly into the sea, and a two-hob spirit cooker which runs on meths (a few bottles of meths included). There is a sink and cold water which I think requires a new water tank and is then good to go. The rest of the system works well.It's a very comfortable boat and even possible to live aboard for the person or persons who enjoy that style of living. It helps if you're not too tall though as headroom is about 5ft8 in the main cabin and less in the V-berth area. Four people can sleep in it at a pinch, two at the front and two in the main cabin. The boat will be fully valeted once I get my stuff off so I will put up the internal pictures once that is done. She was internally refurbished I think in 2006 with new storage space added above the seats. All in all an impressive very seaworthy boat that is equally at home pottering down a canal as sailing the high seas. Freya is currently moored at the Suffolk Yacht Harbour on the beautiful Orwell river, which is a really lovely sailing ground. The river itself can be explored all the way to Ipswich, with plenty of marinas to stay at, and there are also great nearby rivers like the Deben and the Stour. The open sea is a stone's throw away with the world at your fingertips and there is no need to worry about tides or locks to get in and out of your berth, as the harbour is accessible at all states of tide. You just sail or motor straight in and out. SYH do a special rate over the winter which is very cheap (comparatively!) and works at at around £1000 for a nice pontoon berth from the beginning of November to the end of March - five months! There is also the possibility of a swinging mooring on the river which would be cheaper.
