Here we have for sale is a 72 foot narrowboat. Suitable as a liveaboard, for a business or simply for cruising and attending shows.
She draws attention wherever she goes due to her traditional good looks and the beautiful sound of her engine. There has been a lot of work done, so you can be sure that the hull, cabin and engine are sound.
She has been taken back to bare metal, both inside and out, with metalwork details being sorted and added as the work progressed. The hull has been blacked with quality 'International' blacking. 2 x new anodes are included, to be fitted. The cabin was treated with Fertan anti rust treatment and then primed in red oxide.
Pressure treated weatherproof battens were installed and she was then lined with 2 layers of double foil backed insulation board.
Beneath the gunwhales, there is 50mm insulation, followed by 25mm, to give a total thickness of 75mm insulation.
The cabin sides and ceiling have 25mm insulation followed by another 25mm, to give a total thickness of 50mm insulation.
Where the insulation meets the steel supports and battens etc, the joints have been taped with aluminium tape to provide a moisture barrier. Great care and cost has gone into this, so that any condensation is kept to an absolute minimum. The new owner can be confident that the important infrastructue work has been done, so that she can give many years of service.Inside is pretty much a blank canvass, so she can be finished to your own taste of layout design and quality of finish.Up at the Josher style bow there is the separate gas locker which is designed to take 2 x standard gas bottles, so you needn't run out of gas at inconvenient times. The front deck is tug style, with a full height, 5'6" (1.68m) depth locker underneath, containing the large stainless steel water tank and lots of room to store equipment, logs etc. This is followed by the 9'8" (2.95m) open deck, with a traditional hand bilge pump, which is extremely efficient. This could be covered with traditional cratch board and black tarpaulin to complete the exterior.
This deck could be used as a lovely outdoor dining/relaxing space, a workshop/display area for commercial goods or simply as a useful storage area for bikes/logs/motorcycle etc.The main cabin has steel, stable doors, with 7 x brass porholes and a hatch to one side.
It is 31'6" (9.60m) long, so there is plenty of room for your kitchen, bathroom & bedroom.
There is a lilliput woodburning stove with a backboiler to be fitted. This comes with the flue, chimney collar, copper pipework, brass fittings and bathroom radiator/towell rail.
Brass curtain rods, porthole liners, water pump and shower pump are included, to be fitted. From the main cabin is a steel framed bulkhead to the engine room.
There is a Lister JP3 water cooled engine with a stainless steel header tank and a wall mounted fuel day tank. This is filled from the main diesel tank using the traditional fuel hand pump, which means that you never need to run out of fuel.
This is matched to a PRM250 hydraullic gearbox.
There are hatches to both sides of the engine room and a pidgeon loft hatch with 4 x brass portholes in the roof. From the engine room, there is a stable door to the boatman's cabin. This is fully kitted out in the traditional way, with a woodburning range with 2 x hotplates and an oven, fold down double bed, fold down table. Built in sofa with cupboards underneath and various other cupboards and cubby holes.
There are 2 x small brass portholes and a glass bullseye in the ceiling for extra light. Steel doors and hatch lead to the rear deck and there are traditional brass speedwheel throttle and brass gear lever. At the stern is a large 23" propeller which matches the slow revving JP3 engine beautifully. This allows effortless cruising at tickover, with huge amounts of power available, for easy maneuvering. There are traditional front and rear rope fenders and various other ancilliaries, such as boat pole, mooring pins etc included. All in all, she oozes character and quality. She was built by Mike Heywood in 1995 and she is at the stage where she is ready for the interior to be finished off.She was always meant to be a 'keeper' but my circumstances have changed, so I am selling her as a project.
Please call me on 07472 696767 for more details to arrange a viewing. Please also note that offers will only be considered to be serious if we have spoken first.
