This auction poses as a rare opportunity to purchase one of the two remaining Higley Halliday designs. Built in 1927 by Taylor & Bates in Chertsey, the formally named 'Prunella' was built to 45ft long, 10ft 3" wide and was constructed of carvel 1" teak planking. Commissioned by F. H. Muirhead (of whom was a member of the 'British Motor Boat Club' as well as a designer and manufacturer of marine stabilizers), She was pre-reviewed by the 'Motor Boat', 15th April 1927, before being launched 17th June later that year. This specific design was praised by Halliday in a 'Motor Boat' article on the 10th May 1935, stating that 'Prunella' was his favorite cruiser design. He also observed "She has proved herself very able during extensive cruising in all conditions of weather around our coasts and her owner appears to be very satisfied with her performance.". Although not active during the Dunkirk survival missions, she has been used in other war duties. Registered on the 1939 Lloyds Register of Yatchs by the name of 'Saudades', her owner at this time was Mr V S Maxwell who lived in Liverpool; he was a member of the Royal Mersey Yatch Club, therefor it is likely she was moored in Mersey at the beginning of the war. Furthermore, in the Ministry of War Transport list, it states that she was commandeered on 8/10/42 for use by the war department and was returned to her pre-war owner in 1947 (I have photographic evidence of these records from a gentlemen from the Association of Dunkirk Little Ships of whom I have previously discussed the vessels history with). This information is only a small portion of her well documented past. Quite frankly there is too much to include within this listing, although there are many sources online with a further insight to her history. As mentioned, she is well documented. I have a significantly large stack of paperwork from her original blueprints (including her engine diagrams, gearbox diagram etc) to her ships log. Her current layout consists of a forward, double-bunk Captains cabin (with storage); large wheelhouse with chart table, heads (toilet and shower), galley (kitchen: basic amenities), lounge/dining area with wood burner (dining table converts into additional sleeping quarters, large bench seat also converts into a bed, also has a new boiler however it needs installing), a large amount of storage space, beautiful teak skylight above the dining area. Rear cabin consists of two spacious single bunks, with ample storage. Large deck-space. She has been rigged for ketch sails, all sails and rigging is complete. Please note that this vessel is in need of well deserved TLC as she is a very old boat. She has recently been anti-fouled, her hull has been painted and the wheelhouse has been sanded and stained to preserve the teak. Within recent years she has been used as a live-aboard vessel and sadly not to her full potential as a motor sailor. On the negative side, one engine has been stripped down for repair whilst the other hasn't been started in over a year however appears to be in good condition. Apart from a lot of sanding, varnishing and painting inside, the boat is in live-able condition. Overall, the are far more positives than there are negatives. She is currently afloat on an idealistic mooring in Essex, England (in which is transferable, her current mooring will be paid up until December). She has solar panels, a back up generator and 240v shore power of which is run on a meter. This is a very reluctant sale due to poor health preventing me from continuing with her restoration, however there is a possibility of a grant in which may be available to aid the remaining work needed to return her to her natural beauty. Viewing is a must due to the high volume of time wasters I have previously encountered. . As I previously stated, there is too much to include within the listing therefor I strongly encourage any queries (no matter how small) before bidding to save disappointment or misunderstanding. Additionally, there are many more photographs of the vessel in which I was unable to upload due to eBay rules therefor if you would appreciate a more in depth look please do not hesitate to contact me for more photos (or to arrange a viewing).  Please contact me on either 07539117950, 07837200251 or on kiasummer@hotmail.co.uk with any questions.
