Inventory # 9938 Location: Oakdale, NY General Description: This 1976 40' Viking 40 Convertible damaged during Hurricane Sandy while stored on land. Vessel has been out of the water for a few years. There is a plywood patch on the port quarter below the chine, which has been allegedly reported to be related to a jack stand penetrating the hull and a partial flooding of the engine room ensued. Remainder of hull appears to be in fair condition with chalky gelcoat. It was reported that the engine room partially flooded during Storm Sandy. None of the systems could be checked, batteries were old, discharged and it was not possible to determine the extent of electrical damage from the storm. No damage to starboard prop, shaft or rudder, vessel did not float off stands. No damage to port running gear visible at time of inspection. Several antennas were broken. Compass has evidence of condensation. Not all equipment could be tested as no power to vessel at time of inspection. Other: AC: Cruisair, appears to be in fair condition. No obvious waterline could be found on air conditioning units but they are heavily rusted. This rust appears to be from normal lack of maintenance, unable to test. Bow pulpit Cockpit, teak lined Flybridge, in fair condition for age. Flybridge has been exposed to the elements for about 5-6 years, canvas completely ripped. Equipment damage appears to be storm related Gauges and controls in fair condition, helm gauges may have been damaged by storm but unable to test. Tachometers, voltmeters, KVH digital compass, speed/depth gauge. Dytek temperature gauge, etc., several showed signs of water inside the glass. Outriggers Flybridge: Two captains seat, stainless steel wheel, overhead bridge electronic box Rocket launchers Rubrail in fair condition, normal wear and tear, Stainless steel bow rail Swim ladder in fair condition. Swim platform in fair condition. Trim tabs in fair condition, not tested Upholstery, exterior, in poor condition, stained, normal wear and tear, not cleaned for about 5 years. Water heater, fair condition, not tested, condition unknown. Windshield in fair condition for age. Other windows: Starboard quarter salon window cracked Florida 6% state sales tax will apply for Florida residents. Storage charges will accrue after the 10 day grace period. Engines: Twin Detroit Diesel 6-71 freshwater cooled inboard diesels. Serial numbers were not obtainable, plates were missing on engines.Engines preserved. Engines not tested but were barred over and turned freely, condition unknown. Engine hours: Port 2552 and Starboard 2553. Starboard engine oil is clean, no evidence of water. Port engine oil is clean, no evidence of water. Alternators do not appear to have been affected by water. Starter on starboard engine does not appear to have been affected by water. Port engine starter and alternator do have some rust but there isn’t any waterline on engine block or salt deposits.
Transmission: Twin disc, exterior condition appears good, not tested, condition unknown. Port transmission fluid is dirty but no evidence of water. Starboard transmission fluid is clean, no evidence of water.
Generator / Battery: Westerbeke Generator is located in the engine room, no obvious waterline was noted. Generator oil was dirty, no water was noted. Generator hours: 2228. Generator was not tested but did bar over. Batteries (3) in poor condition. Batteries did not have any indications of submersion. The terminals have normal wear and there wasn’t any salt residue on top of the batteries. No indications of submersion although the terminals are corroded, most likely from lack of maintenance and sitting out of the water for several years. Batteries were discharged and none of the systems could be checked. Most of the corrosion on the electrical terminals appears normal.
Electronics: Furuno radar under console may have gotten wet; 2 Shakespeare VHF Antennas and 8’ Extensions; 1 GPS Antenna and 8’ Extension; Radio Direction Finder Antenna; 72 mile Furuno Radar located in console facing up shows rainwater damage; 2 ICOM VHF’s; Datamarine radio direction finder; Robertson autopilot; hailer/intercom; Northstar GPS. Electronics appear in fair condition but could not be tested as no power to vessel. Several electronic items may be outdated, all exposed to weather and two overhead doors were locked and could not be opened, no key, so unable to inspect.
Galley: Galley with stainless steel sink, hot-cold pressure water, formica counter tops, drawers, storage, Sanyo microwave oven, refrigerator/freezer, Princess 3 burner electric stove with oven, Mr. Coffee coffee maker, appliances aged, in poor condition, not tested. Galley parquet sole has not been affected by water. Salon with L shaped convertible dinette, storage cabinets, forward stateroom and head. Some of the teak trim in interior has water stains near galley area. Some of the water stains were above the entertainment center. Headliner in fair condtion. Carpet in poor condition.
Ground Tackle: Ideal Windlass appeared in fair condition, unable to test, condition unknown.
Canvas, Mast Rigging, Sails: Canvas/Isinglass: Bridge enclosure was ripped and shredded from storm damage. Rear cockpit awning is ripped from storm damage.
Head: Single head with sink, vanity, medicine cabinet, shower, electric toilet, not tested. Shipping: Item sold "where is". Assistance with shipping is generally available; however, buyer is responsible for costs of preparing item for shipment and charges for loading vessel onto trailer or transport.

The winning bidder ("buyer") is allowed an inspection period to verify that the item substantially complies with the published description. A buyer who has inspected an item prior to final bid shall be deemed to have accepted the condition of the item at the time of the inspection but may reserve inspection following close of the auction only as to any changes in the item between the time of the initial inspection and a subsequent inspection made within the time for voiding the sale as set forth herein. Buyer shall be obligated to pay the lesser of 25% of the bid amount or $25,000 not later than the close of business on the third business day following the close of bidding.
