RE-LOCATION FORCES SALEBoat: Classic Racing Dragon. Manufacturer/Year : Borresen, 1962. Identification: GBR 377 ( KAREN II ) Description. Karen II is a classic Borresen Dragon constructed in 1962 of mahogany on steamed oak frames. Apart from very subtle and necessary updates (alloy spars, newer sails, new ply deck, and new bilge frame braces) she is totally original. She has her original valid measurement certificate. Karen II won the Edinburgh Cup in 1964, but since that time has led a very relaxed life cruising and some local classic yacht racing in Scotland. She was re-homed in the Midlands in 2013 where further improvements have been made in keeping with her classic pedigree. Karen II is now ready for a new owner to re-commission her after deciding whether to re-fit the original fittings and fixtures to create a genuine and totally original 1960’s classic racer or bring Karen II up-to-date with a modern racing rig. All the original fixtures and fittings which come with Karen II have been refurbished, as the vendor was intending to keep to her original specification and dry sail her. The following work has been completed: Work in 1990’s and early 2000’s under previous ownership: New silicone bronze keel bolts and re-bedded keel. Replacement of small amount of horn timber in oak. New marine ply deck throughout Replaced bronze rib braces in bilge with brass ones. Recent work (2010-14): New alloy mast foot machined from single billet aluminium. Newly chromed original winches Rebuilt rudder Refurbished original mast tension wheels. Hull stripped to bare wood and re-painted and re-varnished. (Ivory white below waterline, gold waterline and thumb-nail line and 4 coats Schooner Gold above waterline. No epoxy used). Inside re-finished in varnish and white bilge paint. Ply deck stripped to bare wood, sealed with three coats epoxy resin and finished with three coats of deck paint. Rig. Karen II will be sold with two fully rigged sets of alloy spars (one by Proctor and one by Sparlight) and a spinnaker pole. All the standing rigging is stainless steel of unkown age. She has a very full sail
