For sale is an impressive example of the well-known and very popular Adams 31. A centre-cockpit family cruising yacht with an enviable reputation as a safe, fast, and capable offshore cruiser. Plenty more photographs are available; just tell me what you’d like to see. The limit of 12 here does not exactly do it justice. This yacht has just undergone a very extensive re-fit over the past sixteen months in preparation for a planned extended SE Asia cruise which, due to totally unforeseen circumstances, has now had to be called off at virtually the last minute. A brief sample of the recent work undertaken would include :- Factory re-built Yanmar diesel engine with only 91 hours on it. New stainless steel 65 litre fuel tank with multiple filters. New coupling/shaft fittings/gland etc. New bronze propeller. New standing rigging. New running rigging. New lifelines. New compass. New full hydraulic steering system. New dodger with stainless frames and grab rail. New, tinted, windows. New self-tailing sheet winches. New electric anchor windlass with cockpit control. New gas BBQ. New LED lighting throughout, together with appropriate wiring. New fridge/freezer unit. New upholstery throughout – including new HD foam. New EPIRB and safeties. New VHF communications radio. Spare VHF communication radio. Duplicate Hi/Lo antennas for radios. New AGM batteries in three banks. New 125W solar panel. New entertainment system. New sail cover/lazy jacks. New canvas boom tent. New shadecloth boom tent. And so on, and so on. The list – & cost – just goes on. With over $45,000.00 of expenditure in order to get her ready for the, planned, trip of a lifetime. On-slip, survey/valuation confirms all good and absolutely NO OSMOSIS. Anti-fouled just three weeks ago. Basic specs of the vessel are :- Adams 31 aft cabin cruising yacht, one of the last built. Constructed of solid GRP. Dimensions, in round figures, are LOA 31’, LWL 26’, Beam 11’ 2, Draft 5’ 4” and a mast height of 49’. She is sloop-rigged and with a moulded fin keel and skeg (no keel bolts to worry about), making her very manoeuvrable yet still very stable. She is very fully equipped for extended sailing, with heaps of storage space and a very generous water supply for a vessel of this size and with separate electric water pumps for galley and head, plus the shower. Water for the galley system is piped through activated charcoal filters so as to ensure pure water for drinking and cooking. The aft cabin – with queen-sized bed – is a terrific bonus as it allows full privacy for the owner. Particularly whenever there are family or guests on board. Other bunks are a double ‘V’ berth forward, two singles in the saloon and a single ‘pilot’ berth. The saloon sits eight in comfort. Cockpit seating is of similar size, but with a smaller table. There is a full set of cockpit cushions plus various deck cushions. There are four good sails, including a cruising spinnaker and a #2 genoa on a fully reconditioned Furlex furler. One very recent mainsail plus one spare (still in good condition). The, keel-stepped, mast was pulled and fully overhauled – with all fittings and electrical wiring replaced at the same time as the standing rigging was replaced last year. Chainplates were stripped, inspected, re-fastened and re-bedded. Work was undertaken by one of Sydney’s most prestigious rigging specialists. The solar panel is mounted above a set of stainless steel davits that are suitable for carrying a dinghy clear of the water - when you don’t want to carry it on deck or tow it. Whilst the Adams 31 has an impressive sailing performance record, it is equally suitable, and very forgiving, for the complete novice; perfect for a family to begin their sailing adventures on. Great for playing around in the local waters yet at the same time capable of sailing virtually anywhere in the world as you broaden your horizons. If, as a buyer, you did happen to fall into the category of being inexperienced but would seriously like to get into family sailing, I would even be willing to offer to give you the necessary instruction afloat to get you safely on your way towards your future sailing adventures. Having been sailing for over 50 years, I don’t need too much persuasion for an excuse to get out on the water! For sailing, virtually everything on the yacht is cockpit-operated, even the electric anchor winch, virtually doing away with the need to go on deck. All sheet winches are self-tailing. She is fitted with a boom-brake as accidental gybe protection. For added safety she has even been equipped with nylon safety netting on the lifelines; ideal for children, animals or even you if you happen to slip up at any time. It will be noted that safety has been the key factor in much of the refit that was carried out. I am not so much interested in speed records, but I am interested in keeping my family safe. An abundance of fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, bilge pumps and the like. The vessel is wired to accept 240v shore power, giving the benefits of normal mains power when alongside and even allowing such a niceties as an automatic espresso machine in the galley. Normal, at sea, cooking is done using a pressurised kero cooker. Fast, safe and efficient. The yacht is equipped with a chart-plotter which covers the whole of Australasia and also has a depth-sounder. She is literally 100% ready for a new owner to turn the key, let go the lines and take off to sea. Even the fuel tank is topped up with fresh fuel! Pittwater or Phuket? Entirely your choice of itinerary but you can feel confident that this yacht will get you there safely. The only thing you need to spend money on is whatever food and drink you feel like putting on board! Basically, the yacht is very fully equipped with far too many items to even try to list here. If you are seriously interested, give me a call on 0416 141 623 and I will do my best to answer any questions you might have, or arrange for you to come and take a look. Requests for information can also be passed to me via SYbluetopaz at linuxmail dot org. (If required, that address can also go with the yacht). This is obviously not some ‘cheapie’ that I am just trying to get rid of in a hurry, so please don’t waste my time – or yours – unless you are serious about wanting to own a quality yacht – and willing to pay for such. Please don’t make some offer by email or telephone – without having even bothered to look at the boat - unless of course you already know it. That is not the action of someone who is a serious buyer. Similarly, please don’t bother asking me what my reserve is; just bid and you’ll soon know if you’ve hit it. Good luck. Please note. This vessel is advertised elsewhere and may therefore be removed from sale prior to completion of the auction here.
