For sale: 1963 Scott McCulloch ski boat. This has been a family boat since 1968. We put the 135hp motor on in 1973. It was treated to a full off-trailer restoration in 2006/2007. Top deck and hull were re-gel coated, stripping is done with Awl Grip. Transom inspected and reinforced. Stern motor gusset reinforced. Transom drain plug replaced with single drain plug. Plastic fuel tank added and fuel filter system. All vinyl and the seats were replaced. Bilge pump and depth finder added. New steering cable added. Wiring updated (still needs a bit of work). 4 speaker Poly-Planar stereo added. New sunlight resistant carpet. New awning. Motor has new coils and carbs were rebuilt and adjusted 3 years ago. New water pump and gear oil flush at that time. New power pack. New plugs. New fuel pump and priming bulb. Cold compression is 148 to 150 on all 4 cylinders. Power lift was added in 2008. Trailer has LED lights and frame has been reinforced. New axle, rims and tires. The wench was replaced in 2008. Issues are a cracked windshield (since 1972) which can be replaced at a glass shop as it’s Plexiglas. We just never bothered. 1 rung of the fold out ladder is at the bottom of Conchas Lake so we replaced it with a step ladder rung in 1974. Electric choke solenoid quit working in 2014. They are available I just never used it that much and preferred the manual one on the engine. A static suppressor needs to be added to the positive line to run the radio while underway due to an unshielded generator on the motor. I wired the radio separately so you could just add another battery. We love this boat but have used our bigger boats more heavily over the last few years as we seem to have larger groups on the water. Sadly, the Scott has sat for the past two years. The 2014 boating season was her last trip on the water. The tank is full of gas and I have added stabilizer but she’ll be a little smoky and cranky till the old gas is gone. No issues with ethanol laced gasoline. We’ve also got a bunch of life jackets and the boat has all her safety equipment. She also has two extra props. The one currently on the motor is for skiing and gives a great hole shot but tops out at 36mph at WOT, the others are more cruising and economy props. I also have an old power lift for parts. Do note that this is a 54-year-old hull and a 43-year-old motor. At the time they were the best but technology has indeed moved on. The hull planes quickly but with the flat bottom has no tolerance for rough water. If the wind gets up you’d better head for shore. The motor is a two-stroke and you must mix your gas. And like all motors of that era it is a rough runner until warm. For many years this boat was the fastest thing on Ute Lake and was named Flash. She still turns heads everywhere she goes. AS is where is. Titles for boat and trailer are in hand. Trailer serial number matches title. The boat never had a serial number tag that I know of. You can check out wikipedia for Robert P. McCulloch and try a website called fiberglassics for more info on Scott. |
