The Crownline 262 CR is a generic 26-foot family express made
popular some years ago thanks to her practical layout and--
perhaps more important--a very competitive price. Like most
boats in her class, the 262 CR rides on a solid fiberglass modified-
V hull with relatively high freeboard and a trailerable 8'6" beam.
Her midcabin interior provides the amenities on expects in a big
trailerable cruiser with berths for four, wraparound dinette, fullservice
galley with stove, microwave and refrigerator, and an enclosed
head with sink. Note the Corian galley counter and pullout
shower fixture in head. The 262's cockpit, with its bench seating
aft, comfortable companion lounge, and double helm seat (with
flip-up base) seems large for a 26-footer. Standard features include
a cockpit table, woodgrain dash, cockpit shower, transom door,
and wet bar with sink and storage. Engine access is excellent in
those with a single engine, not so good with twin engines. On the
downside, the 262's old-fashioned bolt-on swim platform detracts
from her styling. Among several engine choices, a single 320hp
MerCruiser Bravo III sterndrive will cruise in the low 20s (about
35 knots top).
