This is a reluctant sale of 'Wumpus' - a classic 9 ton Hillyard constructed in 1965 for my grandfather. She was sold to another owner in 1978 and spent her intervening years in Jersey (even making a transatlantic trip and cruising the med) before I bought her back in 2012. Over the last five years Wumpus has been subject to a meticulous and painstaking restoration by Nick Gates of Emsworth.  He posted a YouTube video of some of the work which you can view here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xxu2tCB2AkSadly, it has cost rather more than expected with £40,000 spent so far and I do not have the money to pay for the final things I would have liked to have done to be confident to take my young family out. She could do with a proper engine overhaul or replacement, an overhaul of electrics and work to the interior.  None of these things in themselves are in particularly poor state.  The starter motor needs replacing, but I am happy to do this at my own expense for the new owner.  The engine does work quite reliably but is an old model fitted in 1982.  The electrics also function fine but I would have liked to fit modern communications systems.  And the interior is in good condition but I would have liked to have bought new cushions and made it all a bit more homely. Likewise the rigging and sails could probably do with replacing in the next few years - but again not a pressing job. As with any wooden boat it is the 'nasties' that lurk beneath that are the most worrying things.  Wumpus does not have any of this - her woodwork is most likely the best example on any Hillyard of her type currently on the water. She really does look gorgeous - and the outstanding work is all straightforward stuff where costs are more defined. I have all the invoices and can supply detail of all of the work carried out to date - along with a survey carried out in 2012 - which will show all the important points have been addressed. Some of the big jobs include - Mast fully repaired, new spreaders.  New toerails, guard rails.  Deck essentially replaced.  Cabinsides and coachroofs replaced, new deck fittings. Please contact me for additional information about the work undertaken or if you have any other questions or queries. She is currently lying on a mooring in Lymington Harbour, Hampshire. For some reason it is saying 'free P&P' in a banner on the ad - this is not the case.  It will be the responsibility of the seller to arrange collection.
