An incredibly rare opportunity to own a truly unique and original boat docked at Hayle Harbour, Cornwall. Built in Cameret in 1954, this 12.2 metre solid oak crabber has, since the late 1960s, spent her working life in and around Mounts Bay, and enjoys a well respected reputation as a historic reminder of the local fishing industry. She retired from working life in the late nineties the Mez Creiz has since had development works made to convert her to a house boat. Built from solid french oak she has long stood the test of time and will continue to do so. While she may no longer be a working boat, the Mez Creiz has certainly retained all the charm and character of her former occupation. The main body of the the boat, which originally held the vast vouvier crab tank has been completely converted into a open plan living area, with a galley kitchen. Unlike other houseboat conversions, that can often still feel very cramped, this conversion was designed right from the beginning to make maximum use of the space, whilst sympathetically highlighting and repurposing many of the original industrial features, such as the thick oak skeleton of the hull which had previously been covered. As a major part of the ethos of the conversion we wanted to almost exclusively use recycled and repurposed materials; worn scaffold boards and salvaged shipyard oak were painstakingly stripped back and oiled to create the quirky kitchen worktop that surrounds a victorian belfast sink. We have got part way through a vast development of the Mez Creiz but have recently added a new addition to our family, so no longer have the time to commit to finish what will be an incredible conversion. Our initial idea for the Mez Creiz was to develop her into a quirky holiday / AirBnB rental and a place for us to have family holidays. We have removed the engine and internal walls to leave a vast open plan living space. She has massive potential for further conversion. And so with a heavy heart we have had to let her go, however she is at the perfect stage for a new buyer with fresh ideas to explore her full potential…. The possibilities with this boat really are endless. This boat is for sale by viewing only, if you are interested in arranging a viewing or wish to know more please feel free to give me a call, text or email anytime between 9am and 9pm 7 days a week. Cash on collection is preferred. Buyer will be responsible for collection of vessel.
