Tuan Mac is a versatile boat which is at home at sea or on the river. 90 odd built by Fairey Aviation. It is extremely seaworthy and stable. It has a centre fixed keel of cast iron and two bilge keels that allow it to sit flat when drying out. Only draws two feet and the prop is easy to get at from the towpath. Good sails, roller reefing main, Genoa, cruising and storm jibs. Low hours Perkins 4/107 that pushes it along well. Has any soft wood replaced and is in sound condition. Hull is hot laminated Mahogany strip, a technique copied off the Mosquito bomber and is virtually everlasting although there is a triangular gusset (2 x 2ft) on starboard quarter in 1/4" ply to overlay a repair. Good owners club (Atalanta Owners Association) In fact won the 'Renovators Award 2013' and featured in the June 2014 Practical Boat Owner. A sensible beginners boat or leave the mast behind and cruise the broad canals and rivers ! The fixed wheelhouse gives full protection from the elements and makes poor weather almost pleasant. Mast drops/lifts with two people and a rope in a half hour ! Loads of room would make a liveaboard for one/two ? Three times the room of a similar length boat. Gas oven. Sea toilet (Could be converted to 'pump out' easily) Lying Blackwater Essex (CM3 6EL) Come and have a trip round the bay ! Superb club with cheap moorings available. Length 27ft Beam 8 ft 6ins Headroom 6ft. Mother in law not included ! |
