Tropical storm Beryl came ashore in '12 and took out my 26' shamrock and in '13 I picked up this boat from a retired Navy Seal in Brunswick. He told me the boat came from Savannah from an older couple who kept it in a boathouse and drove it for pleasure. I have enjoyed the boat but never intended to keep it this long and now I have my eye on another Shamrock that is in play and need this one gone quickly, so here I am. Like all 26 year old boats they need some minor attention, but the hull, trailer and motor are solid, but I will honestly tell you what I think it does need and the price reflects that.A little about McKee...the founder of McKee worked at Whaler and constructed his boats in a similar fashion (double hull, foam filled) but this 17’ has a seven foot beam vs 5.5’ for a 17’ Whaler. The center removable hatch in the floor needs some attention in terms of the wood being re-glassed on the backside and is a pretty easy job. It has a 1991 Mariner 135 v6 w/carbs with good compression. That said, it starts right up, but needs some attention to the ignition as I believe it has a bad switchbox, about $65 and I think I might have a spare to go with it. When this motor runs properly it really pushes this boat quickly, but at my age speed isn't the issue. The battery is stickered 9/14. The boat is currently registered and was on the water this weekend when it acted up.The trailer is a 2005, 3000lb capacity bunk style with torsion axels and 3 year old Goodyear tires and buddy bearings. When I purchased the boat three years ago I pulled the tank and replaced all lines from the tank to the motor and on the motor as well. I also installed an ARCO starter. I used to fish offshore and out there you either maintain your stuff or change your name - to chum B-). I also installed a sturdy Fulton outboard bracket for a kicker that served as trolling motor (it was a 9.8 horse - not included in sale). There are no electronics on the boat. I have the original top, which needs work, but could be used as a pattern or just have the plastic-glass replaced. The trailer lights are LED. This port-side side glass (not the windshield) has been missing since before my ownership. The transom is solid.I do have a video of the motor running just yesterday so I can send that to you upon request. Ask any questions as I have priced this to move cause my first grandchild was just born and Grandpa “needs” a bigger boat...now. Boat is located off Exit 1 on I95 at Florida-Georgia border.
