Sevtec Vanguard cruising Hovercraft.  There are different types & sizes of hovercraft in the light hovercraft category.  They usually fall into 2 categories, racing hovercraft or cruising hovercraft.  Most hovercraft that come up on eBay are either Ex racing craft or out dated wood hulled 2 stroke powered craft that are not suitable for racing or cruising.  At the bottom of this listing there is a link to a buyers guide for hovercraft.  Please check it out.  This is a rare opportunity to own a new Sevtec cruising hovercraft.  Sevtecs do not come up for sale very often due to them being very roomy on-board, quiet compared to other types of hovercraft, very fuel efficient and the reliability of the Sevtec design.  The normal route to own a Sevtec vanguard is to either build one yourself from plans, buy a finished craft second hand, but they are usually well used and past their best due to the fact their owners hang on to them for years, or you could buy one direct from Amphibious Marine in the USA.   This Sevtec Vanguard is built to a high standard using quality materials and all new parts. The 14’ X 7’ hull is jig built to plan using Tricast T4 & T5 core foam sandwiched between glass cloth & CSM and polyester resin.  All laminate materials are Lloyds approved.  The hull was then painted with Jotun 2 pack epoxy marine grade primer and finished in a 2 pack acrylic top coat.  Bare finished hull weight was around 85 kilos.  Often I am asked if a hovercraft stays afloat on water if the engine stops.  Simple answer is yes they do.  Besides the hull having a foam core adding strength and buoyancy, the Sevtec design has air tanks built in to aid flotation for when floating off cushion on the water. The engine/thrust frame was fabricated then sent off to get hot dipped galvanised as to eliminate the need for constant painting trying to keep rust at bay.  The engine & fan frame weight 43 kg. The engine is a new Kohler 22hp vertical shaft twin cylinder which now has approximately 5 minutes running time, link to video below of engine first start & run. Lift is direct drive from the Kohler crankshaft.  The fan is a new 6 blade multi-wing fan in a 9 blade hub, as per plan.  Lift fan was purchased from K&M Products Propeller is a new 59" Ultra prop purchased direct from Amphibious Marine. The propeller is driven via a pulley on the engine crankshaft using a V belt and a pair of idler pulleys.  Driver pulley & idler pulleys also purchased new direct from Amphibious Marine.  If you are seriously looking for a 2 to 3 seat cruising hovercraft with plenty of onboard space compared to comparable sized hovercraft , this may be the hovercraft for you.  The Sevtec range of hovercraft makes a good fishing platform or cruiser for days/weekends away.  Fuel consumption will be approximately 4 to 6 litres an hour at cruising speed.  The beauty of the Sevtec skirt design is that the risk of having a plough in, is virtually eliminated unlike most other types of hovercraft skirt design.    I would recommend you viewed before purchase and to seek advice from knowledgeable people before making any decisions.  There is plenty of advice to be had from the Hovercraft cruising club and the Sevtec builders forum "links below".  You would be hard pressed to find a better hovercraft for the price that I’m asking.   To finish this hovercraft is a very straight forward project as most of the hard work has been done.  original plans are included in the sale.  I would estimate 4 to 6 weekends should have it ready to use.  To purchase all the new bits, needed to finish this hovercraft I would estimate a cost of around £600 to £700   Jobs left to do:*Supply & fit exhaust system.*Make & fit a skirt.  This is easier than it sounds 1 to 2 weekends would have it sorted.  The skirt material needed is 24oz polyester pvc (lorry curtain sider material)  All skirt details are on the plans.  There is no sewing involved as the skirt is bonded together using a special adhesive.*Supply & fit a throttle system.*Supply & fit steering system;  I have the foam & glass cloth if you choose to use the plan rudders, but there are lighter alternatives.  The Hovercraft Cruising Club have details on how to make effective light weight rudders from Foam PVC sign board. *The electrical wiring & battery needs to be supplied & fitted.  This is a simple job and easily done within a weekend.  There is a new starter solenoid ready to be fitted included in this sale. Links to worthwhile info: Amphibious Marine:    Vanguard Specs:   Propeller:   Engine & thrust call which made me realise a lot of people are under the misconception that a hovercraft can travel over any surface.  The truth is they cannot!  They can however travel economically and efficiently over most surfaces.  Surfaces that hovercraft do not work on very well or at all are: Surfaces covered in large pebbles or deep gravel.  Reason being the skirt  cannot form a seal and the air escapes directly through the pebbles / gravel.  Hovercraft also do not like areas covered in long / heavy vegetation. If your seriously interested but not sure whether or not a Sevtec hovercraft is what your looking for, then I am more than happy to take you out for a ride on Loch Carron, aboard my Sevtec Surveyor.  (The Surveyor is the next size up from the Vanguard).  It would be weather dependant and when I'm not on shift with my job. There is no Trailer with this hovercraft. The hovercraft is in Lochcarron Scottish Highlands IV54 8XQ.
