1987 First 405 Beneteau 40.5-foot cruising /racing sail boat. TAHUNANUI / STEAMBOAT. One of the last production sail boats that were made using solid timbers for the internal cabinetry, which is still in excellent condition, and gives that authentic real boat feel , surrounded by white leather sofas, this yacht has in the past slept up to 7 people within the three cabins, plus an insert to sleep another 2 people in the main cabin, and has a forward electric toilet and shower as well as a rear pump out toilet and shower, there is a third fresh water shower at the stern to wash the salt water off after a swim. The stern has had four large wooden steps fitted to make access to the boat as easy as, and has a ladder that can be fitted to get from the water. All through hulls have been replaced in November 2016, as has the plumbing for both toilets, there is a 4 burner gas stove / oven along with two round sinks that run both sea water (via a foot pump) and hot/cold water. I have replaced 4 of the 13 keel bolts (9 still in the box) didn’t continue as there was nothing wrong with the bolts that were removed. There is a new Lewmar electric winch for hoisting the main and trimming the furling headsail when under load, and the main sail falls into a new sail bag, with lazy jacks. Fitted in October 2016 are two new 160amp solar panels on a tower, which deliver more than ample power to the three 180-amp hour batteries, that are looked after through the three new battery regulator switches. Over Christmas we ran the fridge / freezer 24 hours a day for over 6 days as well toilets, lights, sound system, TV, pumps etc. and the power level never dropped below 12.8volts. This is a great boat to sail, it is very stable and responsive but light and easy to handle, in its day, it was rated as one of the best Bernadeau’s on the water as a cruiser / racer and still easily gets up to 8 + knots under sail, or motor, which is a Perkins 59 HP or (Volvo Penta). Which has had all the timing bearings and belts replaced, as well as fresh oil and filters each year. The boat was antifouled in November 2016. There is a Bimini over the rear steering area, as well as a full set of cushions for all outside seating, as well as two captain’s chairs, one in each corner of the stern, the steering wheel can be removed to give more space when entertaining. ‘ There are two genoa’s, one is a cruising laminate at 135% furling, the other a 135% light Dacron genoa, and a full main with two reefs which can be hoisted by the electric winch or one of the two self-trailing winches on the mast and a hardly used very large Spinnaker. This represent exceptional value for a very sound and well equipped 40 ft. Beneteau. If you are looking to move into 40 ft boats and are not sure you want to spend $500K plus, then this is a great place to start. Inflatable and new 3HP mercury included. $85,000. 00
