For sale is a Roberts 24 lifting keel Yacht (1993) 'Gwennol' with road trailerComes fully equipped. 10hp Honda four stroke engine + auxillary, Radio +handheld, tiller pilot etc as per pictures.  Was fully refurbished 3-4 years ago but has now been stood 2-3 years and in need of TLC again.'Gwennol' is a bit of a sad story. It belongs to a friend, ex colleague and neighbour of mine, an ex-Royal Navy 'Uncle Albert' like character affectionately known as 'Shipwreck' (but don't let that put you off) who is now suffering ill health and has reluctantly asked me to offer her for sale having been unable to use her for the past two seasons.'Shipwreck's' ambition after retirement a few years ago was to buy a boat and sail round the world. He paid a fair price for 'Gwennol'  who was in pretty good nick but then spent a year or more enjoying giving her a complete refurbishment, varnishing and painting everything, new upholstery, curtains and giving everything a good service before launching. After a few successful  trips in her, confident that all was well,  he asked me to accompany him across the channel to Guernsey (The first picture I took from my boat whilst we were mid channel in 2014) and a good time was had by all. Gwennol and crew returned alone and I was pleased to hear she managed well on the rough passage through the Alderney race.I can't remember whether Gwennol was laid up at my friends farm that , or the following Winter, but as the pictures show it is still as 'Shipwreck' left her and his misfortune started soon after. His wife passed and he moved and I lost contact. Recently my farmer friend approached me and said Shipwreck had not paid his storage (luckily we're all friends) nor been back to the boat since and now there is a desperate need to get the boats moved. This was most out of character so I  set about finding him again, only to find him a shocking shadow of his former self having been struck down by poor health and clearly never going to make it 'round the world'  So I'm afraid with little personal knowledge of the boat myself, he has burdened me with the task of selling it.'Shipwreck' informs me the boat was built in 1993? I imagined it would be older but I'll have to take his word on that. He has lost keys so some cropping of locks will be required to inspect lockers further, but I expect it to be full of ropes, fenders, flares etc as it was never emptied after its last voyage. He says he has a box file of paperwork somewhere but to be honest I wouldn't hold my breath given his current state of mind but I'll keep trying. I remember the engine looking brand new when he bought the boat and it certainly performed well on our trip across the channel, as can be seen in the picture, flat calm and very little wind!). There is also an auxiliary outboard (looks like a 2hp Mariner/Yamaha to me?) but all has obviously been left out in the elements.  There is probably an inflatable tender in there somewhere as well? And even a harpoon gun!? (I have no idea) The trailer is in very good order having had new tyres (still holding air) and brake lines etc (tie down straps will be required before towing)I had intended to try and find time to clean it up, and go through everything, make an inventory etc etc, but to be honest its been all I could do to just find the time to go up cut the cabin padlock off and poke my head in to take these pics, but then to be honest hopefully this gives you a better idea of what to expect. Please no 'time wasters', I just don't have the time and I have nothing to gain from this except helping a poor friend. Yes, this is just about the cheapest way to get into ownership of a capable, versatile (with lifting keel and trailer etc) go anywhere (if you are brave enough) family cruiser and so many of us have that dream, but please know that this will need a lot of elbow grease to bring it back, although hopefully little further expense if everything still works? But please then consider mooring fees, let alone finding one! It can be like having a second mortgage, trust me! Although, unlike my fin keel I guess you could keep this one on your drive I suppose! Assume it will be damp, (as to be expected there is a fair amount of water in the bilges and I didn't spend the time finding the pump) mouldy, probably need new upholstery, it definitely needs new boards/doors as the ply has delaminated in the weather to say the least but if you truly are that way inclined and fancy a project then I guess otherwise its all there. Please do come and have a look for yourself before bidding Shipwreck tells me the boat is (was!) worth/valued in excess of £6000. When it came to it I found it a struggle to tell him how much his pride and joy has 'weathered' in his absence. Obviously I can't do him justice just 'giving it away' but I'll take it upon my self to start the bidding at half that with no reserve (its got to go) and deal with the consequences later. A quick add up of all the equipment, engines, trailer etc are getting on that way so I hope it makes more for his sake but surely a bargain to the right sailor?Whilst I have been fortunate enough to have a boat in my family and sailed all my life I am no expert (on anything other than a Macwester 8m). I don't even use the right terminology (well maybe port and starboard)   Basic details of this model are found on Google, but I will do my best to answer any questions or find the answers. If you think you are interested in this, please think it through some more (that's the bit I usually forget to do first!), then if you are still interested then make contact with any questions or to view.etcIf there is no interest I will consider selling all the kit separately then getting whatever we can for the bare boat but not for now.The little red boat also has to go, it was to be his next project just to keep him occupied because he had enjoyed doing Gwennol so much (and this really is a project but I'm told all there) also with road trailer. Even if just for the worth of the trailer for that one and I will try and find the time to put up a listing for it soon.Located near Yeovil, Somerset. No postage, no swaps, no scams, no keel kickers (?) no messing, just hard earned cash but otherwise you are very welcome :)07970 414490 (I work /sleep odd shifts and can't often answer so please leave message / text if no reply)
