Hi, Our Snapdragon 23 sailing boat is for sale on The Lake districts beautiful Ullswater. It would make an ideal 1st cruiser or even just a floating hol cottage, as acomm so expensive up there!!!
Ok, the details. She is all GRP and when they built them in the early 70's they were built to a far tougher skin in those early days of GRP, and therefore is pretty much indestructable. She is lifting keel with a draught of aprox 2' and so can go through shallows, where others won't.
In 2009 she had completely new...mast,boom,tabernacle,shrouds,bottle screws, forestay and furlex 50s at a cost of £5k by "rig magic" in Ipswich. (invoice avail).
The outboard motor is a Mercury force 5hp two stroke, complete with proper fuel tank & feed. There is a small galley area for a brew and bacon butties and a brand new Thetford porta loo.
She is equipped with both manual & electric bilge pumps, NASA speed indicator, NASA depth indicator, port, starboard and aft lights.
There is a DELCO voyager leisure battery that powers these.
She is moored on probably the most beautiful lake in England with stunning and awsome scenery.
Of course with all boats this age, theres always "something to do", be it keeping the exterior wood work in good shape/oiled or keeping fittings sealed against rain water.
There is also a full spade anchor on the front with many mtrs of anchor chain.
As like anything, you'll probably want to change the interior decor to your own tastes and put your own mark on it.
I have fitted a brand new mooring strop on her only this week. There is a VHF radio for sea use, but this is untested and therefore should be presumed it doesn't work, but if it does...happy days, as there is no need for one on lake sailing.
Both pullpit & pushpit are stainless steel and there is also a set of steel folding boarding ladders on the aft.
There are some spare ropes and halyards etc in the rope locker along with some fenders etc. There is also a pick up pole for picking up the mooring strop after a day out.
All in all, a good sturdy boat with plenty of cruising to enjoy and she is now fitted with "privacy" windows, so you can see out, but no one can see in.
The mooring is gear is owned by me, (negotiable) so just a seasonal licence to pay, which is paid until Oct 31st 2017.I have several requests regarding mooring fees etc.
The boat does not need safety inspections, and 3rd party ins (compulsory) costs £60 a year.
The Licence costs £390 per year (early bird offer) and can be spread over 4 payments. Licence Season is from Mar 1st to Oct 31st and have been paid for this year, so nothing to pay this year. The mooring gear is open to negotiation on viewing, but I paid £400 for it and will do a deal on it along with the boat. Winter storage is avail at £200 from Nov to End of Feb. So moorings equate to around £11.60 a week annually.1 night at a campsite in the Lake district costs circa £15+ per night!!!She is moored just off the shores of a good popular camp site, where we use the showers etc (20p pieces).
